The Sisters of Mercy, West Midwest Community, Inc. (WMW), is one of six Communities that form the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, an international community of women religious. The Executive Director of Development will have responsibility to provide leadership to the Development team in designing and implementing a full range of development programs that reflect the mission, vision and goals of the Sisters of Mercy. This position will spend up to 40% of the time in direct contact with current and potential donors. The Executive Director of Development interacts with both the Community Leadership Team (CLT) and the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas as the dynamics of the congregation change.
Requirements: • Minimum of seven years of experience leading and directing development teams to higher levels of success. • Bachelors’ degree in related field. • Experience in designing and implementing fund development programs, including major gifts, planned giving and capital campaigns. • Demonstrated success in large gift solicitation. • Strong ability to create and perform to measurable goals incorporating analytical skills. • Ability to travel to West Midwest sites and/or to meet donors up to 40% of the time, often involving overnight stays. • Excellent oral and written communications and interpersonal skills. • Strong project management skills. • Effective leadership, delegation, and organizational skills. • The ability to develop trusting, respectful relationships with donors and Sisters, Associates and Companions and employees in the multiple sites of West Midwest Community. • Strong computer skills and an understanding of development database(s), experience with Raiser’s Edge is a plus, and proficiency in Microsoft Office • Flexibility, adaptability, and creativity. • Knowledge of charitable tax law.
Preferred requirements: • Prior development experience working with Catholic Religious Communities of women • CFRE and/or CAP designation preferred
