Working in coordination with and under the supervision of the Director of Planned Giving, the Planned Giving Development Officer will identify, cultivate, solicit and steward planned gifts and gift intentions from CRS donors. The PGDO will collaborate with RDDs, as needed, to support the solicitation of planned gift intentions and outright planned gifts from major donors. Finally, the PGDO is also responsible for expanding CRS' Professional Advisor network in the West.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with planned gift donors and prospects, including personal visits, events, telephone calls, and written and email correspondence. - Conduct stewardship visits and gift planning prospect visits. - Respond to inquiries or leads generated and follows up with appropriate cultivation, and stewardship tactics. Identify additional giving opportunities and implement activities (campaigns, events, etc.) for increasing and cultivating prospects and donors. - Optimize utilization of the Opportunities Management system for activities such as portfolio assignments, reporting, use of resources and prospect development. - Work with leadership giving and annual giving on collaborative efforts to increase bequest commitments, planned gift inquiries, and outright planned gifts. Keep abreast of programmatic developments to share with donors, as appropriate. - Develop and maintain a network of professional advisors working with high net worth individuals. - Provide the PG Director and staff with information and insights gleaned from donor contacts to contribute content to PG mailings and refine marketing materials. - Provide quality content, including writing and editorial support as needed, for PG marketing and stewardship materials. - Cross-train with other PG staff on donor stewardship best practices, planned gifts (bequests, annuities, IRAs, etc.) in order to respond to donor inquiries. - Stay current regarding CRS programming, news, and world events. - Provide input in developing short and long-term planning. - Other tasks as assigned.
- MA or MS minimum requirement. - 7-10 years of demonstrated success in fundraising, including cultivation and solicitation of donors. - Planned giving and/or major giving experience, a plus. - Prior experience implementing and developing donor stewardship programs, a plus. - Excellent writing skills in solicitation letters, PG articles, etc., required. - Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including ability to speak and present information clearly and empathetically. - Ability to explain sophisticated planned gifts in a clear and easily understood manner to donors. - Strong analytical and research skills. - Maturity, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a deadline-oriented environment. - Project a positive donor service attitude in all aspects of duties internally and externally. - Computer literacy (MS Office: Word, Outlook, Exce; Skype). - Knowledge of fundraising databases and gift annuity software, required. - Willingness to travel domestically approximately 25-30% of the time.
