Our Special Events and Donor Relations Coordinator is responsible for researching and initiating communication to establish appointments for our Major Gift Officers and development staff as well as planning, designing, coordinating, publicizing and implementing innovative fundraising events appropriate for specific audiences or benefactors, alumni and friends across the country. Through positive engagement, the Special Events and Donor Relations Coordinator will predispose our benefactors prior to visits and will be the lead on numerous events ranging from small, donor-centric events to one large-scale gala each year.
Plans, designs and executes innovative fundraising events appropriate for specific audiences (large and small) of benefactors, alumni and friends of Franciscan University of Steubenville. This includes locating and securing proper venues for each donor event.
Coordinates the timeline of all major fundraising events, assuring effective flow and delivery and post event analysis for continuous improvement.
Serves as liaison with key volunteers (donors) to organize events. Maintains effective relationships with a wide variety of vendors on and off campus. Negotiates contracts and pricing to ensure that the event is completed to specification. Will coordinate on campus with event staff to ensure excellent hospitality at every event.
With oversight from supervisor, will develop and maintain budget and ensure that event costs do not exceed budgeted allocations.
Help with creating and preparing presentations on various software applications including PowerPoint and Prezi and use of other presentation tools such as Publisher or Adobe InDesign.
Predispose donors to accept visits for major gift officers through letters, phone and/or email.
Secure appointments for gift officers/directors with qualified donors and send reminders prior to visits.
Work closely with the Donor Relations Manager to keep a current list of prospective, unassigned donors that have been researched and have potential for assignment by director of Major Gifts or VP of Advancement.
Provide excellent follow up and data recording of donor contacts in Raiser’s Edge.
Help plan and coordinate gift officers’ schedules before, during and after donor visits to allow them to maximize their time while on the road.

Skills & Competencies
Knowledge of marketing principles and methods, including but not limited to marketing strategies for events.
Knowledge of customer and personal service principles, including but not limited to building rapport with benefactors and vendors and maintaining great relationships. Strong customer service orientation.
Strong understanding of Microsoft and/or Apple software applications including PowerPoint, Prezi and other presentation tools such as Publisher and Adobe InDesign.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
High level organizational skills and effective at prioritizing competing demands.
Project/event management/planning/organization. Attention to detail is very important.
Very good with conflict management and providing solutions to problems.
Excellent follow through along with ability to meet commitments and deliver intended results.
Able to maintain a clear focus on the intended outcomes of a given goal, project or assignment.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications or similar area preferred and/or equivalent experience/training.
2-5 years of experience as events planner with high net worth individuals or equivalent position preferred.
Demonstrated success working in a results-oriented position which requires a high degree of personal motivation.
Telemarketing or phonathon experience helpful.
Believes, promotes and has a strong commitment to the mission of Franciscan University.
Previous fundraising experience helpful.
Certifications & Licenses
Collegiate Conferences & Events Professional (CCEP) certification is a plus (not required).
Some evenings and weekends will be required.
Occasional travel to event locations.
