Reporting to the Director of Major Gifts, the Major Gifts Officer’s primary responsibility is to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of current and future donors who are capable of making major gifts as defined by the University. The Major Gifts Officer works collaboratively with colleagues in the Advancement Office and represents all of Franciscan University’s programs while working with alumni/alumnae, parents, friends, staff and faculty in helping them focus on matching each of their interests with the appropriate gift opportunities.
Performance will be largely measured by the degree of success in securing gift commitments through cash, pledges or bequests with the emphasis being on current major gifts.
Implement prospecting plan/strategy to build and expand major gift portfolio.
Identify, cultivate and solicit Franciscan University alumni/alumnae, parents and friends who are capable of making major gifts to the University.
Develop, create and present proposals for consideration according to donor’s interest and financial situation.
Initiate and maintain great relationships with prospective and current donors.
Develop specific objectives to meet fundraising and activity goals with the help of the Director of Major Gifts.
Raise Major Gifts to fund University programs with a special emphasis on the University’s major priorities.
Interact with internal contacts such as development staff along with other university faculty and staff to consult on University needs, formulate proposal strategies and identify potential donors with the assistance of the Director of Major Gifts.
Devise and recommend cultivation and solicitation strategies. Determine and execute events and programs in support of development activities.

Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge and Reeher software systems is a plus
Proficient in Microsoft Word & Excel

Education & Experience

3-5 years of fundraising, sales or related experience with proven track record of success
Bachelor’s degree preferred with an advanced degree desired
Extensive travel required
Some evenings and weekends required, driven by events and donor accessibility
